This specimen was lot 1276 in Sincona sale 79 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 2,800 CHF (about US$3,356 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN | Königreich, George II. 1727-1760. 1/2 Guinea 1748, London. Old laureate head. Very rare in this condition. NGC AU53." This head, the final one for George II, was used 1747-60. It is the first issue of this denomination that is not very scarce. Guineas were superseded by sovereigns during the reform of 1817.
