This specimen was lot 2462 in Sincona sale 80 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$300 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN | Königreich, George II. 1727-1760. Shilling 1747, London. Old laureate and draped bust, GEORGIVS on obverse. NGC AU58." This type is listed for 1743, 1745 and 1747 and is somewhat available in worn condition. The mint did not produce near enough small change for the industrial boom of the eighteenth century, leading to a proliferation of private tokens. The situation would not be rectified until the reform of 1817.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 6.02 g, 0.925 fine silver.
