Great Britain 1688 guinea Fr-295
This specimen was lot 34755 in Heritage sale 3094 (Chicago, August 2021), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain: James II gold Guinea 1688 AU Details (Obverse Repaired) NGC. Bearing some scratches to the obverse and subsequent smoothing; otherwise, a boldly detailed and visually alluring specimen. James II's Guineas are difficult to obtain in any decent grade and often show evidence of heavy circulation or mounting, and as such the present offering represents an above-average example for the type." This type was struck 1686-88 and is rare. It also comes with an elephant & castle below the bust, indicating gold sourced from Africa.
