This specimen was lot 1429 in Goldberg sale 116 (Los Angeles, June 2020), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain. Penny, 1683. Charles II. ERA for FRA (on reverse) variety. Rare and nearly uncirculated. PCGS graded AU-58." All the dated silver pennies of Charles II are of this type, which is common. The silver penny was struck thru the eighteenth century but became less and less useful until finally superseded by Boulton and Watt's copper penny of the 1790's. Silver pennies are still struck for the Maundy sets.
