Great Britain (1606-07) double crown
The first specimen was lot 4894 in Goldberg sale 72 (Los Angeles, February 2013), where it sold for $1,811. The catalog description[2] noted, "Great Britain. Double Crown, ND. James I, 1603-1625. Mint mark, Escallop (1606-7). Second coinage. Crowned fourth bust right. Reverse: Crown square shield with IR at sides. NGC graded EF-45." The second specimen was lot 20138 in Ponterio sale 176 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $2,350. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. James I, 1603-1625. Double Crown, ND (1606-07). Escallop. Second Coinage. Fourth bust. Crowned bust right, plain armor details and different ruff. Rv. Crowned square top quartered shield flanked by ‘I’ and ‘R’; dual titles of queen and king. There is a light crease across the exceptionally detailed portrait. Well centered and attractive. Very Fine. Ex: Ponterio & Wyatt, 1982."
