This specimen was lot 71079 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2022), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "GIBRALTAR. Copper 2 Quartos Token, 1802. George III. NGC AU-58. Toothed border variety. Lightly handled and possessing a fairly deep brown color, this example remains entirely wholesome and original." The British captured the rock of Gibraltar from the Spanish in 1704 and have held it since. No coinage was issued specifically for the place until 1841; this two quart, accompanied by a one quart, is actually a merchant token. Toothed and plain border varieties exist.
