This type was struck for circulation in 1950, 1966-96. This is a product of the Hamburg mint and this is a common date. Large and small mintmark varieties exist for this date. After unification in 1989-90, Berlin began striking this type as well. The issues of 1997-2001 were for collector sets only. To this writer's knowledge, Germany is the only country in Europe still operating branch mints: A - Berlin; D - Munich; F - Stuttgart; G - Karlsruhe and J - Hamburg.
Recorded mintage: 65,622,000 plus 8,000 proofs.
Specification: 4 g, brass plated steel, 21.5 mm diameter.
