This specimen was lot 2608 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €1,100 (about US$1,558 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHE MÜNZEN AB 1871 · BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND, 2 Pfennig 1967 G. Von großer Seltenheit. Nur 520 Exemplare geprägt. Polierte Platte. Aus der Sammlung eines deutschen Fabrikanten und Geschichtsfreundes. Exemplar der eLive Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 64, Januar 2021, Nr. 1316. (Germany, Federal Republic, two pfennig of 1967. Extremely rare, only 320 pieces struck, proof.)"

This type was struck for circulation in 1950 and 1958-68. The type was converted in 1968 to copper plated steel (KM 106a) and struck in that form until 2002. This example is valuable because it is copper-plated steel (magnetic) instead of bronze.

Recorded mintage: 6,280,000, plus 4,500 proofs plus 520 in copper-plated steel (shown here).

Specification: 2.9 g, copper-plated steel, 19.25 mm diameter, plain edge.

Catalog reference: KM 106 (bronze) or KM 106a (copper-plated steel), J. 381a.
