Künker sale 264, lot 4353

This specimen was lot 4353 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €400 (about US$517 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ALLIIERTE BESETZUNG, 5 Reichspfennig 1948, E. RR Vorzüglich +. (Germany, Allied occupation, five reichspfennig of 1948, rare, extremely fine or better.)"

This type was minted 1947-48 at Berlin and Muldenhutten (shown here) is what was rapidly coming East Germany. Other than removing the swastika, the design is little modified from the Nazi issue (KM 100) of 1940-44. Zinc one and ten pfennig were also issued.
