Germany 1947-F 10 pfennig
This specimen was lot 32986 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $528. The catalog description[1] noted, "Allied Occupation Proof 10 Pfennig 1947-F PR65 Cameo PCGS, Stuttgart mint. Coming from a lesser-seen period in German history, this blemish-free example maintains the dark, steely appearance of the early Third Reich issues while softening the overall mood of the imagery. With a recorded catalog value of $300 in PR63, the present offering will certainly command a premium price among bidders." Altho listed by the SCWC under the Third Reich, this type of 1945-48 was issued by the Allied military authorities from Berlin, Stuttgart (shown here), Muldenhutten and Karlsruhe using altered dies. The one, five and ten pfennig had been converted to zinc in 1940 and that composition was continued. The introduction of the deutschemark in the western zone in 1949 terminated the issue. It is common in low grade but very scarce in choice condition.
Recorded mintage: 1,269,000 plus proofs.
Specification: zinc.
