This specimen was lot 56618 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Empire. 10 Pfennig, 1917. Wilhelm II. PCGS EF-45. Struck in zinc, variety with beaded border." In 1917, as Germany was losing World War One, the regime struck this zinc ten pfennig without mintmark. It must not have been a success, as the experiment was not repeated. The denomination had been copper-nickel until 1916, when it and the five pfennig were switched to steel. The iron type continued in production until 1922, when the reichsmark collapsed.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: zinc, 21 mm diameter.
