This type was struck for circulation in 1890-1916 at Berlin (mintmark A), Munich (D), Muldenhutten (E), Stuttgart (F), Karlsruhe (G, shown here) and Hamburg (J). The previous type of 1873-76, 1888-89 (KM 4) had a different eagle. This is a better date but this specimen is too worn to obtain a premium. In 1916, the denomination was converted to iron to save nickel for the war effort.
Recorded mintage: 480,000.
Specification: 4 g, copper-nickel, 21 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM 12.
