Sedwick Treasure Auction 38, lot 1102
Sedwick 38-1102r.jpg

This specimen was lot 1102 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 38 (Winter Park, FL, November 2025), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALIAN STATES, Genoa (Republic), 1 scudo stretto, Biennial Doges (1528-1797), 1700/1000 I.B.M., rare. Full-flan VF/XF with elegant old toning all over, slightly convex with minor flaw field flaw on obverse, interesting unlisted variety with 1700 date clearly punched over an erroneous 1000, possibly rare and important for specialist collectors." This type was struck 1637-56, 1661-1705, 1712-21 and 1725. The SCWC incorrectly states the weight as 19 g, which caused us considerable confusion for some time. It is not common. Two, three, four and six scudi exist. The seventeenth century dates are catalogued as Dav-3901.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 38 g, 0.889 fine silver, this specimen 38.35 grams.

Catalog reference: KM-79 (unlisted overdate); Dav-1366.
