This specimen was lot 34015 in Heritage sale 3098 (New York, January 2022), where it sold for $5,040. The catalog description[1] noted, "Italy: Genoa. Biennial Doges gold 2 Doppie (Quadrupla) 1614-MC MS63 NGC, Genoa mint, 2nd Phase of 1541-1637. A scarce denomination from this republic, solidly struck in the centers but missing portions of the legends due to a ragged flan. Light olive tone has settled over the still-lustrous surfaces." This type was struck 1592-1637 but despite the extensive years of issue, this denomination is very rare today. Two doppie equaled four ducats.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 14 g, 0.986 fine gold.
