Geneva 1754 2 quarts
This specimen was lot 2547 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 400 CHF (about US$537 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Genf/Genève, Stadt und Kanton, 2 Quarts (1/2 Sol oder 6 Deniers) 1754, Genf. Silberabschlag. Selten. Vorzüglich. Hübsche Patina. (Switzerland, canton of Geneva, two quarts or six deniers of 1754, Geneva mint, struck in silver. Rare, Extremely fine, Attractively toned.)"
This type was struck in billon and silver intermittently 1754-88. One thaler was 96 sols and one sol was four quarts. In 1794, a French-sponsored revolution toppled the old oligarchy.
