Künker sale 294, lot 3628
Fugger in 1789, prior to its partition between Wurttemberg and Bavaria about 1806

This specimen was lot 3628 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €1,700 (about US$2,291 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FUGGER, GRAFEN, Anton I. 1530-1560. Goldgulden o. J. Weissenhorn, mit Titel Karls V. GOLD. R Attraktives, sehr schönes Exemplar. (counts of Fugger, Anton I, 1530-60, undated goldgulden, Weissenhorn mint, struck in the name of Charles V. Scarce, attractive very fine example.)"

Friedberg lists this undated coin for 1493-1560 which seems improbable as 1493 is the year Anton Fugger was born. He was made an imperial count in 1530 and that seems more likely as the date of his coinage, which is rare. Altho the Fuggers were leading citizens of Augsburg, their estates were south of Ulm in what is now Wurttemberg.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, .110 troy oz AGW; this specimen is 3,20 g.

Catalog reference: Fr-1034; Kull 39 leicht var.
