Fribourg 1787 kreuzer
This specimen was lot 3109 in Sincona sale 94 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 280 CHF (about US$388 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Freiburg/Fribourg, Stadt und Kanton, Kreuzer 1787, Fribourg. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. FDC. (Switzerland, canton of Fribourg, kreuzer of 1787, Fribourg mint. Very rare in this condition, Uncirculated.)"
In Fribourg, 56 kreuzer = one gulden. This type was struck 1737-38, 1741, 1769-74, 1787-89. In 1798, the armies of Revolutionary France invaded Switzerland and the old confederation collapsed. The Helvetic Republic was set up and the cantons reorganized.
