This specimen was struck for French Polynesia by the Paris mint, which issued this type 1967-70. A closely related type with "I.E.O.M." added to the obverse (KM 9) has been issued sporadically since 1972. French Polynesia is better known to English speakers as Tahiti. This coin shares a common obverse with other types issued for various French colonies, such as New Caledonia and the New Hebrides. The reverse features the vanilla bean and the breadfruit.
