This specimen was struck for French Polynesia (then called French Oceania) by the Paris mint, which issued this type 1952 only. It joined a 50 centimes, one franc and two francs struck in 1949. French Polynesia is better known to English speakers as Tahiti. This coin shares a common obverse with other types issued for various French colonies.
