French Indochina 1922 piastre

Stack's Bowers September 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 74469

This specimen was lot 74469 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $240. The catalog description^[1] noted, "FRENCH INDO-CHINA. Piastre, 1922. San Francisco Mint. NGC Unc Details--Harshly Cleaned. Despite some rather extensive cleaning, this stunning example remains without evidence of time spent in circulation." The San Francisco mint struck piastres for the French in 1921-22 along with the Heaton mint (mintmark "H").

Recorded mintage: 1,150,000, a better date.

Specification: 27 g, 0.900 fine silver, 37 mm diameter.
