Stack's Bowers September 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 74469

This specimen was lot 74469 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRENCH INDO-CHINA. Piastre, 1922. San Francisco Mint. NGC Unc Details--Harshly Cleaned. Despite some rather extensive cleaning, this stunning example remains without evidence of time spent in circulation." The San Francisco mint struck piastres for the French in 1921-22 along with the Heaton mint (mintmark "H").

Recorded mintage: 1,150,000, a better date.

Specification: 27 g, 0.900 fine silver, 37 mm diameter.
