French Indochina 1900-A 50 cent
This specimen was lot 30970 in Heritage sale 3073 (Chicago, April 2019), where it sold for $4,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "French Colony silver Proof 50 Cents 1900-A PR64 PCGS, Paris mint. Very rare with a mintage of only 100 pieces. Mottled gray obverse, with a touch of golden patina on the reverse. The strike is full and the surfaces display only a few minor marks." This fifty cent piece is one of a type issued for French Indo-China during 1896 and 1900. The denomination was reduced from 13.60 grams in 1895. The next issue of fifty cent pieces was in 1936.
