This specimen was lot 42204 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRENCH INDO-CHINA. Mint Error -- Center Hole Punched Off-Center -- Sapeque, 1896. Paris Mint. PCGS MS-64 Red Brown. An interesting error type with the central hole punched off from center, this near-Gem presents rich red-brown flair and great brilliance." This type was struck 1887-89, 1892-1902 as a two sapeque, as can be seen by the Chinese character for "2" ("ニ") on the reverse. Even tho the auctioneers miscatalogued it, it is still a rare item, as 1896 is an unlisted date in the SCWC.
