Sincona sale 57, lot 2959

The first specimen was lot 1040 in Sedwick sale 25 (Winter Park, FL, May 2018), where it sold for $142.80. The catalog description[1] noted, "French Indo-China (struck at the Paris mint), bronze 1 centime, 1895-A, NGC AU 50 BN. Satin-smooth fields with no marks at all, just some high-point wear on the seated Liberty (could be weak strike), traces of original color. NGC #4715670-011." The second specimen was lot 2959 in Sincona sale 57 (Zürich, May 2019), where it sold for 325 CHF (about US$387 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"Französisch Indochina, 1 Cent 1895 A, Paris. Umschrift: UN CENTIEME DE PIASTRE. Selten. Gutes sehr schön. (French Indochina, one cent of 1895, Paris mint. Rare, Good very fine.)"

This is a scarce one year type with a different obverse legend than the preceding or succeeding type.

Recorded mintage: 290,000.

Specification: bronze, 10 g, the second specimen 10.04 g.
