French Colonies 1721-B 9 deniers
This specimen was lot 2960 in Sincona sale 57 (Zürich, May 2019), where it sold for 1,000 CHF (about US$1,190 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Französische Kolonien | Amérique, Louis XV, 1715-1774. 9 Deniers des Colonies Françoises 1721 B, Rouen. Sehr selten. Sehr schön. (French colonies in America, Louis XV, 1715-74, nine deniers of 1721, Rouen mint. Very rare, Very fine.)"
This type was struck 1721-22 at Rouen (shown here) and La Rochelle. The 1721-B is a better date. Altho a few may have made their way to Canada, it is more likely that the bulk were sent to the French slave plantations in the Caribbean.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: copper, this specimen 4.86 g.
