This specimen was lot 1323 in Stephen Album sale 38 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2020), where it sold for $1,547. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRENCH COCHINCHINA: AR 10 cents, 1879-A, a wonderful example with beautiful old toning! PCGS graded MS65, ex Dr. Axel Wahlstedt Collection." Cochin China, the French name for the part of Vietnam around the Mekong delta and Saigon, was conquered by them in the 1860's. Coins were issued for the colony in 1879 and 1884-85 before the region was reorganized as French Indochina in 1885. This type is rather scarce.
