The first specimen was lot 46053 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Frankfurt. Taler, 1865. Frankfurt Mint. Free City. NGC MS-62." This type was struck by the free city of Frankfurt am Main 1862-65. Its face value of one thaler was equal to 1-3/4 gulden. A similar two thaler was also minted 1860-66 and is actually more common. Frankfurt was annexed by Prussia in 1866 and its coinage ceased.

Specification: 18.52 g, 0.900 fine silver, 33 mm diameter, lettered edge, .536 troy oz ASW.
