This specimen was lot 74698 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Frankfurt. Kreuzer, 1804-GB GH. Frankfurt Mint. PCGS MS-66. Free City issue with a three line inscription on each side. Full silvery brilliance can be seen on both sides as well." This type was struck 1803-05 and is fairly common. It is one of many small denominations made in the free city in the nineteenth century. Others included the three kreuzer, six kreuzer, half gulden, gulden and double gulden. The last kreuzer was struck in 1866, the year the city was annexed by Prussia. One convention thaler was 120 kreuzer.
