Frankfurt 1649 ducat Fr-976
This specimen was lot 6516 in CNG Triton XXIX (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $1,102.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY, Frankfurt (city). AV Dukat. Dated 1649. Crowned eagle facing with wings spread, head right / Legend in five lines within ornate cartouche. Very slight bend. EF." he SCWC divides this issue into two subtypes: eagle's head right (KM 104.2, shown here), struck 1649-60 and 1666, and eagle's head left (KM 104.1), struck 1646-49 and 1652-54. While much more available than the contemporary double ducat (Fr-971), it is not common.
