This specimen was lot 757 in Steve Album Auction 53 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE: Republic, 1 centime, 1961, ESSAI piedfort (piéfort) strike, very lustrous, mintage of only 104 pieces, rare, PCGS graded Specimen 67." This type was struck 1962-2001 but not struck for circulation after 1979. The 1961 was not minted for circulation.
Recorded mintage: 3,500 essais (KM E103) plus 104 pieforts (KM PE933).
Specification: 1.65 g, stainless steel, 15 mm diameter, plain edge.
