Sincona sale 57, lot 2946

This specimen was lot 2946 in Sincona sale 57 (Zürich, May 2019), where it sold for 160 CHF (about US$191 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Gouvernement provisoire, 1944-1947. 20 Centimes 1946 B, Beaumont le Roger. Selten. Gutes sehr schön. (France, provisional government, 1944-47, twenty centimes of 1946, Beaumont le Roger mint. Rare, Good very fine.)"

This type was struck immediately after liberation from Nazi occupation until the disbandment of the Provisional Government in 1946. Despite the substantial mintage, this is a rare date; Le Franc theorizes that many were struck from dies not bearing any mintmark.

Recorded mintage: 5,525,000.

Specification: 3 g, zinc, 24 mm diameter; this specimen: 3.13 g.

Catalog reference: F.155/6, Gadoury 324, KM 907.2.
