This specimen is the most common date of a type struck at the Paris mint 1938-40 and 1945-47. This was issued in the last days of the Third Republic as Hitler's armies prepared their blitzkreig around the Maginot Line.

Recorded mintage: 8,190,881.

Specification: 12 g, aluminum bronze, 31 mm diameter, designed by André-Henri Lavrillier (1885-1958).
