France 1936 5 centimes rev DSLR.jpg

The specimen shown is a five centimes of a type struck under the Third Republic of France 1920-38. It is a reduced size version of the copper-nickel five centimes introduced in 1917 to replace the traditional bronze half sou. The 1920 is the only scarce date. This coin is very common in circulated condition but hard to find choice. The alloy was switched to "maillechort" (copper-nickel-zinc) in 1938.

Recorded mintage: 64,340,897.

Specification: 2 g, copper-nickel, 17 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Edmond-Émile Lindauer.

Catalog reference: KM 875, F.122/19.
