France 1922 5 centimes rev DSLR.jpg

This specimen is a slightly scarce date of a series struck 1920-38 during the waning years of the Third Republic of France. It superseded a similar but slightly larger coin struck 1917-20. During 1922-24, the Paris mint issues (cornucopia privy mark) were supplemented by issues from Poissy (lightning bolt privy mark, shown here). This design was also used for similar ten and twenty-five centime pieces; the central hole kept it from being confused with larger denominations with similar diameters. This coin is very common in circulated condition but hard to find choice.

Recorded mintage: 17,716,885[1].

Specification: 2 g, copper-nickel, 17 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by E. E. Lindauer (1869-1942).

Catalog reference: F.122/5, KM 875.
