France 1922(p) 10 centimes
This specimen was lot 35453 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2022), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. 10 Centimes, 1922. Poissy Mint. PCGS MS-66." This specimen is a common date of a series struck 1917-38 during the waning years of the French Third Republic. It superseded a similar coin struck in pure nickel 1914-16. This design was also used for similar five and twenty-five centime pieces; the central hole kept it from being confused with larger denominations with similar diameters. This coin is very common in circulated condition but hard to find choice. In 1922-24, the Paris mint was assisted by issues from Poissy, distinguished by the lightning bolt privy mark instead of the usual cornucopia (shown here).
Recorded Mintage: 12,412,130[2] at Poissy and 23,033,127 at Paris.
Specification: 4 g, copper-nickel, 21 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by E. E. Lindauer (1869-1942).
