This specimen was lot 20542 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2019), where it sold for $720. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. 10 Centimes, 1896-A. Paris Mint. NGC MS-64 Brown. Torch next to mint mark. A well struck and nicely detailed example with smooth chocolate patina on the obverse while the reverse display a nice combination of medium brown with a blue sheen and hints of original mint red amongst the devices. An attractive example sure to be a welcome addition to the next collection it enters." This type was struck 1870-98 and is common altho this particular issue is scarce. The 1896 with the fasces privy mark is common. The Cérès head was replaced by the "Marianne" head designed by Daniel-Dupuis (struck 1898-1920).

Recorded mintage: 4,447,261[2] (both privy marks).

Specification: 10 g, bronze, 30 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Eugéne-André Oudiné (1810-1887).
