Sincona sale 69, lot 518

This specimen was lot 518 in Sincona sale 69 (Zürich, May 2021), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANKREICH. II. Kaiserreich. Napoleon III. 1852-1870. 5 Francs 1869 BB, Strasbourg. Petit BB. Selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Fast FDC. (France, second empire, Napoleon III, 1852-70, five francs of 1869, Strasbourg mint, small mintmark. Rare, especially in this condition, About uncirculated.)"

This variety, with the small mintmark, is priced fourteen times the date with the regular mintmark, which is common.

Recorded mintage: 9,601,259 (all varieties)[2].

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 37 mm diameter, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE. It was designed by Albert-Desiré Barre, 1818-1879; this specimen 25.00 g.
