This specimen was lot 1973 in Jean Elsen sale 160 (Brussels, November 2024), where it sold for €150 (about US$190 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANCE, Napoléon III (1852-1870), AV 5 francs, 1868 A, Paris. Nettoyé. Très Beau à Superbe. (empire of France, Napoleon III, gold five francs of 1868, Paris mint. Cleaned, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type, the last gold five francs, was struck 1862-68 at Paris and Strasbourg. This is a common date. Silver five francs exist of this date.

Recorded mintage: 1,864,491[2].

Specification: 1.63 g, 0.900 fine gold, 16.7 mm diameter, reeded edge.
