France 1865-A 10 centimes

from the Mountain Groan Collection

This specimen, struck for France at the Paris mint, is an example of a Napoleon III "laureate head" 10 centimes. Strasbourg ("BB") and Bordeaux ("K") also minted this type. The type was struck 1861-65 with a total production of 52 million examples. It is common. Some dates are scarce but none are rare. This date is not rare but is priced^[1] about 50% higher than the common date (1861A). It was replaced by the Cérès head struck 1870-98.

Specification: 10 g, bronze, 30 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Albert-Desiré Barré and Jean-Jacques Barré.
