Jean Elsen sale 144, lot 1721

This specimen was lot 1721 in Jean Elsen sale 144 (Brussels, March 2020), where it sold for €260 (about US$343 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANCE, Napoléon III (1852-1870), Cu 10 centimes, 1863A, Paris. Fleur de Coin. (empire of France, Napoleon III, 1852-70, copper ten centimes of 1863, Paris mint. Uncirculated.)"

This specimen, struck at the Paris mint, is an example of a Napoleon III "laureate head" ten centimes. Strasbourg ("BB") and Bordeaux ("K") also minted this type. The type was struck 1861-65 with a total production of 52 million examples. It is common. Some dates are scarce but none are rare.

Recorded mintage: 4,196,184[2].

Specification: 10 g, bronze, 30 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Albert-Desiré Barré and Jean-Jacques Barré.
