France 1846-A 50 centimes

from the Mountain Groan Collection

This dime-sized coin was struck at Paris under the régime of king Louis Philippe of France (1830-48). It is a common date of a type struck 1845-48. All fifty centimes of this reign are of this type, which is common. It replaced the half franc piece of 1831-45 (F.182) and was demonetized in 1869.

The catalog^[1] notes 16 dates for the type, some very rare. This date is priced about 23% higher than the commonest date (1847-A).
