France 1841-K 1/4 franc
This tiny coin was struck at Bordeaux under the régime of king Louis Philippe of France (1830-48). It is a better date of a type struck 1831-45. All quarter francs of this reign are of this type, which is common. It was replaced in 1845 by a twenty-five centimes piece (F.167) and demonetized in 1852. The catalog[1] notes 108 dates for the type, some very rare. This date is scarce, priced triple the common date even in low grade. The second specimen was lot 1582 in Jean Elsen sale 151 (Brussels, June 2022), where it sold for €90 (about US$113 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"FRANCE, Louis-Philippe (1830-1848), AR 1/4 franc, 1841K, Bordeaux. presque Superbe. (kingdom of France, Louis Philippe, 1830-48, silver quarter franc of 1841, Bordeaux mint. about Extremely Fine.)"
