This specimen was lot 52188 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Royal Visit Silver Medallic 5 Francs, 1817. Paris Mint. NGC MS-63. Lettered edge. Obverse: Two coats-of-arms within wreath; crown above; Reverse: Legend in eight lines. Commemorating the royal visit of the Duke and Duchess of Berry to the Paris Mint. A RARE issuance in silver, this example retains strong flash in the fields with a veil of deep tone atop that contains significant multicolored iridescence. The finest that we've seen of the type, with the assigned grading appearing to be quite conservative." This rare monnaie de visite is mentioned in bronze and gold. A silver two francs (VG-2499) was also issued for this visit.
