This specimen was part of lot 71358 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), which sold for $414.80. The catalog description^[1] noted, "FRANCE. Empire. Trio of 2 Francs & Francs (3 Pieces), 1807 & 1808. Napoleon I. Grade Range: FINE Details to EXTREMELY FINE Details. 1) 2 Francs, 1808-B. Rouen. EXTREMELY FINE. Cleaned. 2) Franc, 1807-L. Bayonne. EXTREMELY FINE. Cleaned. Ex: Sobin Collection. 3) Franc, 1808-Q. Perpignan. FINE. Tooled. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS. From the Richard Margolis Collection." This was struck at Perpignan under the régime of Napoleon as emperor. The type was struck 1807-08. However, despite being in production for little over a year, more were made (11.8 million) than of the subsequent type (F.205) minted 1809-14 (10.0 million). It was demonetized in 1869. The catalog^[2] notes 16 date-mintmark combinations for the type, some very rare. In 1809, the reverse was revised to read "EMPIRE FRANÇAISE".

Specification: 23 mm diameter, 5 grams, 0.900 fine silver, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE. Designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier, 1763-1819.
