This tenth écu au buste habillé, the equivalent of a dime, was struck at the Paris mint in 1785 during the reign of Louis XVI of France. Droulers[1] lists this date as common. The second specimen was lot 33319 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $176.25. The catalog description[3] noted, "Louis XVI Mint Error 12 Sols 1785-A XF/AU, Also valued as 1/10 Ecu. Paris, (A), mint. Legend mistakenly reads 'Lud XV'. Listed as R3 in Gadoury. Extremely attractive as well."

Recorded mintage: 90,115[1], 90,000[2].

Specification: 2.95 g, 0.917 fine silver, .087 troy oz ASW, reeded edge, 21-22 mm diameter.
