Steve Album sale 55, lot 824

This specimen was lot 824 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $780. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE: Louis XVI, 1774-1790, AR 1/2 écu (44 sols), Aix, 1777-&, beautiful multicolored tone, rare date/mintmark, PCGS graded MS62. Second finest graded by PCGS." The 1777-& demi-écu au buste habillé of France is a better date of the type struck 1774-1792. It had a face value of 60 sols, not 44 sols.

Recorded mintage: 35,483.

Specifications: 14.74 g, 0.917 fine silver, 30.5 mm diameter, lettered edge.
