Stack's Bowers September 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 74742

This specimen was lot 74742 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. 1/5 Ecu (24 Sols), 1773-A. Paris Mint. Louis XV. PCGS AU-55. From the Richard August Collection." This type was struck 1771-74 at Paris, Bayonne and Strasbourg but only the 1774-BB is common.

Recorded mintage: 6,225, a rare date[2].

Specification: 5.89 g, 0.917 fine silver, 26-27 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by J.-C. Röettiers.
