Goldberg sale 128, lot 1322

This specimen was lot 1322 in Goldberg sale 128 (Los Angeles, June 2022), where it sold for $1,500. The catalog description^[1] noted, "France. Louis d'or au bandeau, 1755-& (Aix). Louis XV. Pop 1; 1 in 64; only 2 graded at PCGS. PCGS graded AU-58." The louis d'or au bandeau was introduced in 1740 and was struck at all the mints. Most issues of this type by the Aix mint are rare, as is this one.

Recorded mintage: 14,115, a scarce date^[2].

Specification: 8.15 g, 0.917 fine gold, 24 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by J. C. Röettiers.
