Künker Auction 439, lot 2065

This specimen was lot 2065 in Künker sale 439 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €3,000 (about US$4,127 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANKREICH, KÖNIGREICH Louis XV, 1715-1774. 1/2 Louis d'or au bandeau 1745 A, Paris. GOLD. Sehr seltener Jahrgang. Winz. Schrötlingsfehler, vorzüglich. (kingdom of France, Louis XV, 1715-74, half louis d'or of the ribbon of 1745, Paris mint. Very rare date, minor planchet defects, extremely fine.)"

The demi-louis d'or au bandeau was struck at the same time as the single louis and double louis. It seems to have been an unnecessary and unpopular denomination as all the dates are rare. The Paris mint was the only mint to strike demi-louis for 1745.

Recorded mintage: 1,559[2], a rare date of a fairly rare type.

Specification: 4.08 g, 0.917 fine gold, reeded edge, designed by J.-C. Röettiers, this specimen 4,06 g.

Catalog reference: Dr/4 № 809, KM 517.1, Duplessy 1644; Fr-465; Gadoury 330.
