This specimen was lot 42191 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. 1/4 Ecu, 1679-N. Montpellier Mint. Louis XIV. PCGS AU-50. A RARELY encountered fractional Ecu "à la cravate," featuring the elegant baroque portrait of the "Sun King." Deeply original and wonderfully attractive, the light circulation rub lending a wholesome, hearty character. From the Richard August Collection. Ex: Enterprise Collection (Heritage - 1/2004) Lot # 14649." This type was struck 1679-80; this is a rare date of a rare type.

Recorded mintage: 65,796 all varieties.

Specification: 6.86 g, 0.917 fine silver, 26-27 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Joseph Roëttiers.
