Sincona sale 80, lot 2339

This specimen was lot 2339 in Sincona sale 80 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 2,000 CHF (about US$2,397 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE | Kingdom, Louis XIV. 1643-1715. Louis d`or juvénile à la tête laurée 1668 D, Lyon. NGC AU58." All louis d'or juvénile of this period are rare. Another variety exists for 1670-D wherein the king sports no laurel wreath in his hair. This variety, with the laurel wreath, was struck mostly at Paris and Lyon 1659-72.
